Our Wisconsin People’s Platform is an effort to bring together the people of Wisconsin with coalition leaders, advocates, organizers, researchers, and policy experts to identify shared priorities, evaluate potential reforms, and develop a roadmap for meaningful policy change rooted in our shared values of Freedom, Safety, Justice, and Joy.
WHY THIS PROCESS MATTERS
Too often, policy conversations begin after elections and legislative sessions have already begun.
Organizations, coalitions, advocates, and policymakers may share similar goals but often operate independently, resulting in competing priorities, duplicated efforts, and missed opportunities for collaboration.
At the same time, Wisconsin is home to a rich ecosystem of organizations that have spent years developing thoughtful solutions to challenges facing communities across the state. It is through them that we can flip the script and bring the needs, concerns, and ideas of people all over Wisconsin into the rooms where policy is crafted - BEFORE decisions are made.
Our Wisconsin People’s Platform seeks to create a structured process for bringing those ideas together.
The ultimate goal is to ensure that Wisconsin enters the next chapter of policymaking with greater clarity, coordination, and readiness with everyone represented at the table.
Having the right information to confidently cast your ballot for a candidate is one thing, but information shouldn’t flow only in one direction. That’s why Our Wisconsin People’s Platform puts the people of Wisconsin out front - raising our voices through policy grounded in our shared identity, common values, and collective struggles.
1 - Complete the community survey now. This is an easy, 5-minute opportunity for your voice to be at the table when leaders, advocates, and policy experts craft the formal platform in late September.
2 - Share the community survey with everyone you know. More survey responses mean more data to inform the platform … and that adds up to a bigger statement when the platform is published and legislators have the chance to back it.
3 - Gather in your community for a policy town hall to discover all the ways policy shapes our lives directly, and the common ground you have with friends and neighbors to build power right where you are. Learn more about the town hall tour here!
4 - Share your story. By putting your voice out there, we can build momentum not only for the platform, but for a power building movement across Wisconsin that puts the people back in the driver seat for the long haul.
5 - Watch for the platform release. At the end of September, it will be publicly available. You’ll be able to see the influence hundreds of Wisconsinites have when we work together.
6 - Put the platform to work! Make sure anyone asking for your vote knows about the platform and pledges to work toward enacting it.
